I had the pleasure of meeting Carly and her mom last August, at The Dawes Arboretum in Licking County. The place was crawling with photographers, and there wasn't a place open. We found a few fields, and were able to snag a spot at the Japanese Koi pond, but we were running out of options (and daylight!). Having been rained out before, we didn't want to have to reschedule again.

Did I mention it was HOT? Darn August heat..
Then I had a light bulb moment, Downtown Granville! I hadn't shot there in a long while, since most seniors request locations closer to Columbus for more of an "urban feel". The great thing about Granville is you get both the small town feel, AND the urban feel.
If you haven't been to Granville, consider checking it out sometime. My husband, his friend, Phil and I regularly visit the Broadway Pub for dinner. The Bourbon chicken is to die for! My other favorite restaurant is Day Y Noche, you really can't go wrong.
Granville is such a fun, quirky town with SO much texture on the buildings. The moment you get out of your car, you can smell so many different restaurants that immediately you get hungry (or at least I do!). The East side of Broadway is cluttered with people coming and going from Whit's Frozen Custard, some with their dogs in tow, others just trying to satisfy their children's sweet tooth. No matter how busy, the business owners and customers alike are always so polite. When you walk behind these restaurants, right before the fire house, you find multiple colored walls. Teal, red, yellow. And just the back alley itself is intriguing.

Crossing Broadway can be a bit challenging, as the traffic, even for a small town, can be busy. We decided to stop in the dead center for a quick photo anyways!

The West side of Broadway is much more quiet. It has more of the shops, and connects to the bike path. It also is home to some of my favorite little alley ways, with flowers blooming behind the iron fences, or ivy sprouting up random buildings. There are so many steps, benches and arch ways to choose from, it's a photographers dream. It is truly my favorite place to shoot!

We ended up having an absolute blast in Granville! Even running and screaming like fools at the drivers honking at us in the road. Hey, we were in a cross walk!
Word of advice to either incoming seniors, or you procrastinating seniors who have yet to have your pictures taken: Spring is coming, and this place is gorgeous with spring blooms. Do NOT miss your opportunity, the blooms fade fast!!
